KindArt is a platform for the works of an enthusiastic amateur. In her real life, Sigrun Lilja is an academic, who dreamed about becoming an artist when she was young. Raised in a remote countryside of Southern Iceland and the daughter of farmers, tending to domestic animals and the scenic landscape of Mýrdalur with its glacier and highlands in the north, black sand beaches to the south, glacier rivers on both ‘sides’ with green mountains and moors (at least in the summer) are present in her works.

Why KindArt?
KindArt has multiple meanings. In Icelandic, kind means female sheep, the German version refers to youth, and the English meaning is obvious. These three elements combined form an interesting mixture, under the influences of Icelandic nature.

About Sigrun Lilja
Sigrun Lilja was born in the Mýrdalur region in 1974. In her professional life, she is an associate professor at Bifröst University with a PhD in the sociology of the arts from University of Exeter, UK. In a way, her attempt to artistic endeavour is an ode to a childhood’s dream and this web is her willingness to share it with others.

The Icelandic sheep
The Icelandic sheep is an odd fish, intelligent with funny quirks and personalities. As a part of Icelandic nature (praised by some, loathed by others) she has kept Icelanders alive for over 1000 years. The attempt to artistic creativity and design on this platform is a humble ‘thank you’ to her and the rough beauty of Iceland.
