Description
Gestur Pálsson . His writings in formal and informal language. First issue. – Gestur was born in 1852 at Miðhús á Reykjanes in Reykhólahreppi and a monument has been erected to him by the highway above the town. Gestur stayed abroad and studied in Copenhagen, but dropped out. He went to Reykjavík and became an editor, first of Þjóðólf and then of Suðr. Gestur moved west across the ocean in 1890 and took over the editorship of Heimskringla, the newspaper of Íslendingi i Vesturheimi. However, that editor’s career did not last long, because he died in Winnepeg in 1891. Gestur was one of the pioneers of realism in literature in Iceland and was equally involved in short stories, poetry and novels. He was one of the Verðandimen who were so called because they published the magazine Verðandi in 1882 and published works in the spirit of realism. The others were Einar Hjörleifsson Kvaran, Bertel Þorleifsson and Hannes Hafstein. He moved west across the ocean in 1890 and took over the editorship of Heimskringla.
The book is a rare western print, hand-bound in a contemporary binding, leather binding on the keel and corners and marmor card paper. Size: 17.8 X 12 cm and 240 pages. Photo of the author on the title page.
